The Passage of Time Mural displayed in the Lovelace Wing

Representative John Dorn
Representative John Dorn was integral in displaying the mural at the State Capitol.
In celebration of Blue Earth County’s Sesquicentennial, The Passage of Time mural was painted by 25 Mankato Area youth artists of all ages. The youth were selected from a group of 76 students who participated in an art exhibit at the Library in 2001. Each student selected a subject of personal interest and submitted a drawing of their ideas. From this collection of drawings, the three-panel painting, depicting the past, present, and future of the Mankato Area, became a story of the passage of time. With the help of renowned Mankato artist, Marian Anderson, the drawings were transferred to three sections of canvas. The paintings took shape as the students painted their portion of the mural one night a week after school with Anderson during the 2001/2002 school year. The project, from start to finish, took nearly a year to complete, and was celebrated at an unveiling ceremony August 26, 2002, at the Blue Earth County Library.

Passage Of Time
Twenty-five area youth worked together to celebrate Blue Earth County's 150th Anniversary by painting the Passage of Time Mural. An unveiling event on August 26, 2002, celebrated their success.

On May 14, 2003, the mammoth 5 x 15-foot Passage of Time mural completed a fearless journey to the Minnesota State Capitol. In commemoration of Blue Earth County’s Sesquicentennial, the Blue Earth County Library's Passage of Time mural was on display in the First Floor North Corridor of the State Capitol through May 23, 2003.

The painting is on display in the Library's children's wing, where it will stay for years to come. The mural is a lasting example of the concerned and caring youth who are proudly celebrating Blue Earth County's 150th anniversary this year.

Proceeds from the print sales will benefit future youth programs at the Library.
