About the author: Chris McCormick is the author of The Gimmicks, a New York Times Editors' Choice, and Desert Boys, winner of the Stonewall Book Award. His essays and stories have appeared in The Atlantic, the Los Angeles Times, and elsewhere. He teaches in the creative writing program at MSU Mankato.
